Abstract
The experiment was conducted at the Horticulture Farm, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, during the period from November 2023-April 2024 to evaluate the influence of SAU PLM (Probiotic Liquid Manure) on growth and yield of tomato. The experiment consisted of five treatments, namely: T1: Control (only water); T2: 20% of SAU PLM (1:4 concentration); T3: 50% of SAU PLM (1:1 concentration); T4: 100% of SAU PLM (Direct use); T5: RFD (Recommended Fertilizer Dose). The single factor experiment was laid out in a Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. Significant variations of growth and yield parameters were found among the treatments. The result showed that T5 (RDF) and T4 (100% of SAU PLM) treatments enhanced vegetative growth and yield attributes more prominently. Among all the parameters, the tallest plant (105.4 cm), maximum leaf number (25.0), the highest fruit weight (104.9 g) was observed in T5 (RFD) and maximum SPAD value (44.8) maximum fresh fruit weight/plant (3358.6 g), maximum brix percentage (5.1), maximum yield/plot (26.8 kg) and maximum calculated yield/ha (55.5 t/ha) was found in T4 (100% of SAU PLM). While shortest plant (20.1 cm), minimum leaf number (3.0), minimum single fruit weight (62.5 g), minimum fruit weight/plant (741.6 g), minimum brix percentage (3.7), lowest yield/plot (5.9 kg) and lowest calculated yield/ha (12.2 t/ha) was found in T1 (Control). Following the findings of this study, if tomato growers use probiotic liquid manure directly in the field, final yield and the quality of tomato will be better, moreover, it will keep soil health better with eco-friendly agriculture.
