The Reunion and 20 years celebration program of Agrotechnology Discipline, Khulna University was held on the 30 April 2016. The program started with a colorful rally in the campus of Khulna University, thereafter a seminar, group discussion; and open conversations among teachers and students . Agrotechnology Discipline which was started in the year 1996, is now a very established discipline of study for agriculture in Bangladesh. Many former graduates attended the program; who are working in the govt. and non-govt. service with high reputation. A bunch of graduates are working as BCS officials in different cadre. Agrotechnology Discipline Alumnai Association was formed during this reunion program day; to increase the connectivity among the graduates. Journal BiNET co-sponsored the 20 years celebration & reunion of Agrotech discipline, Khulna University. The reunion program was end-up with a colorful cultural program in the evening. Graduates of this discipline have been playing pioneer role in the development of agricultural system and agro-based economy of the country. They are involved in various national and international roles and jobs. Presently, about 250 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students are enrolled in this discipline and are taught by learned well qualified and experienced faculties. The vision of the discipline is to make this discipline an integrated institution with functional relationships with relevant government as well as non-government organizations and private sector firms enabling the discipline to contribute meaningfully to agricultural development of Bangladesh. Soil Resource Development Institute (SRDI) along with Ministry of Agriculture, FAO and Soil Science Society of Bangladesh organized a workshop on international year of soils 2015 at Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC), Dhaka dated 13 December 2015. Honourable minister of agriculture Begum Matia Chowdhury, MP; and secretary of ministry of agriculture, FAO representative, heads of various departments, professors, scientist, farmers and distinguished guest attended the workshop. Program of the day started through a rally in the morning. Speakers and guests of the workshop discussed on various challenges of soil and water management, available soil data, soil fertility degradation, environmental protection, FAO focal points, fertilizers use in agriculture, farmer services, soil biological life, cropping patterns, present land use, ground water extraction and future management options. The 68th UN General Assembly declared 2015 the International Year of Soils (IYS) (A/RES/68/232). The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has been nominated to implement the IYS 2015, within the framework of the Global Soil Partnership and in collaboration with Governments and the secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
